Process reasoning
A commercial polymer product contains an active fraction and may contain other components. A preparation system dilutes that product further. The active mass equals commercial-product mass multiplied by its verified active fraction. Dose expressed as kg active polymer per tonne of dry feed solids should use the same dry-solids definition and test interval as the dewatering trial. Supplier documentation is needed for the actual active content; the physical form alone does not establish it.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE
Apply the reasoning
For an illustrative active dose of 4 kg per tonne of dry solids and a 40% active commercial product, the commercial-product requirement is 10 kg per tonne of dry solids. At 0.8 tonnes of dry solids per hour, consumption is 8 kg/h of commercial product. Preparation-water demand depends on the specified solution basis and concentration, which must be stated separately.
What to record
| Item | Basis to document |
|---|---|
| Active dose | kg active / tonne dry feed solids |
| Commercial requirement | Active mass / verified active fraction |
| Diluted solution | Commercial product plus preparation water |
| Comparison cost | Commercial consumption × delivered product price |
Review checklist
- Obtain the product-specific active-content definition.
- Record the tested product and preparation procedure.
- Include dilution water in the package balance.
- Compare capture, cake solids and chemical dose together.
Your next decision
Request a trial sheet that preserves both the measured pump delivery and the normalized active dose. An apparently low solution flow can simply mean a more concentrated preparation. Agree storage, preparation and dosing scope with the supplier and evaluate the practical operating window across feed changes, not only the best single result.
