ENGINEERING WORKBENCH
Make your first decision with a clear basis.
Shortlist a separation route and check six transparent calculations. Every result is a planning aid with stated assumptions, not a machine rating.
01 / PROCESS DUTY FINDER
What does a good separation look like for you?
Start with the required output. The shortlist explains what to test and where another technology may fit.
Relative centrifugal force
RCF = 1.118 × 10−5 × radius (cm) × speed (rpm)2
Calculation only. This is not an operating-speed recommendation. Use the effective radius specified for your machine; never exceed its rated limits.
Sludge dewatering mass balance
Use mass flow and dry-solids fractions to estimate wet-cake output. No density assumption is required.
Illustrative balance excludes wash water, polymer solution and other added streams. Verify these streams before sizing equipment.
Dry-solids loading
Dry-solids load = flow × slurry density × dry-solids mass fraction.
Use slurry density at the stated conditions. Weight percent is not volume percent.
Average batch throughput
Average dry-solids output = dry solids per batch × 60 / full cycle time.
Includes the complete cycle. The schedule fraction represents additional planned downtime; do not count the same downtime twice.
Specific energy
Specific energy = measured package energy / dry solids processed.
Use measured average power over the same interval. Installed motor rating is not a measured operating power.
Dryer evaporation duty
Water removal = dry-solids load × (1 / inlet fraction − 1 / outlet fraction).
Assumes conserved dry solids. This is water-removal mass, not heat demand or a dryer rating.
Keep the assumptions with the result.
Use the process brief to carry your feed, targets and open questions into the discussion.
