What matters in the process
A screen-scroll design depends on suitable particle retention and drainage through the screen and solids bed. A decanter depends on settling, liquid residence conditions and solids conveying in the bowl. Fine solids can be a challenge in either design for different reasons. Abrasion protection, differential speed and discharge handling must be specified according to the material rather than copied between machine types.
A practical example
A coarse crystalline slurry can justify screen-scroll trials where free liquid drains readily. A fine suspension that does not form a suitable filtering bed may justify sedimentation trials. A combined thickening or screen-bowl design may also be considered, but its two stages need their own mass balance and measured benefit.
What to check or specify
- Confirm screen aperture and particle distribution.
- Measure solids in every liquid discharge.
- Record moisture and crystal breakage together.
- Identify the exact family: LLW, LLWZ, LW or LWZ.
Turn the result into a decision
Use the full model designation and a process diagram in the enquiry. Similar abbreviations can conceal different internals and different intended duties. Ask the supplier to explain the selected mechanism in relation to feed properties and outlet quality.
