What matters in the process
A decanter continuously separates and transports solids within a rotating bowl. A filter press forms a cake in filter chambers under pressure and then opens for discharge. The practical comparison includes cake release, cycle transitions, conditioning, washability, cleaning and downstream conveying. Space for plate opening, maintenance or lifting belongs in the layout assessment just as centrifuge service access does.
A practical example
For a sludge project, a drier press cake may reduce transport costs, while a centrifuge may offer a continuous feed interface. The financial outcome depends on actual cake solids, labour, polymer or other chemicals, power and availability. Do not compare purchase prices while ignoring a buffer tank or cake handling required by one option.
What to check or specify
- Use a common dry-solids mass balance.
- Measure cake solids and capture on representative feed.
- Account for discontinuous and continuous interfaces.
- Include consumables, operators, wash water and maintenance.
Turn the result into a decision
Ask for a trial and lifecycle comparison rather than a categorical recommendation. If continuous processing is valuable, the HUADA LW system can be evaluated with its pumps, conditioning and conveyors. Confirm that any improvement in handling does not compromise the required cake or liquid quality.
