What matters in the process
Define the feed envelope and permitted variation in composition, particle size, concentration and temperature. Identify utilities, operator responsibilities, sampling, averaging periods and analytical methods. Distinguish rated mechanical values from process guarantees. A basket loading figure or maximum RPM is not a guarantee of output on the buyer’s material.
A practical example
For a sludge duty, a cake-solids target should be assessed alongside solids capture and feed throughput. For a washed crystal, purity should be assessed with recovery and wash consumption. If the process is evaluated only at an unusually favourable feed condition, the test may not represent normal production.
What to check or specify
- Specify all critical output values and their bases.
- Attach a bounded feed and utility envelope.
- Define representative sampling and analysis.
- Agree repeatability, test duration and treatment of off-spec feed.
Turn the result into a decision
Use trial evidence to set realistic guarantees, and explicitly identify unresolved items. Avoid selecting the best isolated observation from a test series. A repeatable operating window provides a stronger basis for engineering, commercial comparison and customer expectations.
