What matters in the process
The centrifuge, feed connections, discharge path and connected vessels may not share the same atmosphere under every operating condition. Gas seals and pressure relationships influence containment. Oxygen measurement needs an appropriate sampling and maintenance concept. The use of nitrogen also introduces an asphyxiation hazard outside the process enclosure and requires suitable site controls.
A practical example
A project may specify nitrogen supply to the machine housing but overlook a solids transfer connection that admits air during discharge. Review the actual sequence and connected equipment with the responsible engineers. A component list without a cause-and-effect description can hide a gap in the intended protection.
What to check or specify
- Define the protected equipment and connection boundaries.
- Specify instrument functions and fault responses.
- Confirm gas-supply quality and reliability requirements.
- Review ventilation, access and personnel exposure at site.
Turn the result into a decision
Request the agreed control philosophy, interlock schedule and testing requirements. No universal purge rate, oxygen threshold or timing is provided here because these values depend on the actual substance, volume and engineered protection concept. Follow the approved project documentation.
